About the position

The Failure Analysis Technician V at Generac is responsible for conducting failure analysis on printed circuit boards (PCBs) related to clean energy reliability stress testing. This role involves mentoring other technicians, maintaining the organization of the Failure Analysis Lab, and developing new procedures and tools for failure analysis. The technician will work closely with various functional groups to address product and customer issues, utilizing both internal and external technical expertise to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform failure analysis activities related to the design, manufacture, and reliability of Clean Energy PCBs and other components.
  • Analyze complex problems and present concise results to all levels, including Root Cause Analysis and 8D.
  • Investigate root causes of failures and collaborate with team members to determine corrective actions.
  • Interact with functional groups at all levels to resolve critical product and customer issues.
  • Develop new Failure Analysis procedures and tools, documenting workflows and procedures.
  • Prepare technical failure analysis and root cause reports for internal customers.
  • Communicate suggestions effectively to R&D, Test Development, Manufacturing, or management teams.
  • Build close relationships with internal customers to assist in solving technical problems.
  • Research new technologies to enhance support for customer issues.
  • Maintain the lab's 6S methodology (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety).

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Engineering or Science or relevant military electronics training.
  • 10 years of experience in electronic components or assemblies.
  • Strong technical background in PCBs and electronic components.
  • Electrical test experience including basic measurements (Voltage, Current, Resistance, Capacitance) using tools like Oscilloscope, DMM, LCR.
  • SMT soldering skills.
  • Familiarity with analysis techniques such as SEM, EDX, Raman, TOF-SIMS, FTIR, AFM, XPS, Obirch, XRAY, Cross section, and FIB is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Time and project prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, and statistical analysis software.
  • Extremely organized with respect to lab equipment and calibration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with advanced analysis techniques such as SEM, EDX, Raman, TOF-SIMS, FTIR, AFM, XPS, Obirch, XRAY, Cross section, and FIB.
