About the position

The position is responsible for the timely and accurate completion of tasks in several areas of applications engineering. This includes accompanying sales staff on visits to customer sites to identify and understand customer needs, qualifying and communicating product opportunities, and collaborating with engineering to drive design wins based on the best technical solutions. The role also involves maintaining an understanding of technical trends driving the markets and competition, developing detailed specifications and application notes for new products, and supporting field issues and repairs. Additionally, the position requires educating sales staff and other personnel about both new and existing products, while ensuring compliance with all Smiths Interconnect EHS programs, policies, procedures, and training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany sales staff on visits to customer sites to identify and understand customer needs
  • Qualify and communicate product opportunities
  • Collaborate with Engineering to drive design wins based on best technical solutions
  • Facilitate corporate standards and cost efficiencies
  • Drive growth within product segment(s)
  • Maintain and communicate understanding of technical trends driving markets and competition
  • Track customer roadmaps
  • Develop detailed specifications and application notes for new products
  • Contribute content to technical collateral materials
  • Maintain customer files for use by global FAE's and other departments
  • Support field issues and repairs
  • Educate sales staff or any other internal/external personnel about both new and existing products
  • Comply with all Smiths Interconnect EHS programs, policies, procedures and training requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or direct professional experience in a related background of five years required
  • Well-organized and self-motivated
  • Ability to manage many projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify and support change and continuous improvement
  • Ability to maintain customer accounts and sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making business decisions
  • Understanding of the organization's commercial environment
  • Ability to engage, challenge and work effectively with others both internal and external
  • Strong written and verbal skills including public speaking and making presentations
  • Knowledgeable of the market, techniques and principles
  • Ability to work directly with customers on resolution of complex technical issues
