About the position

The Field Engineer 1 position at GE Healthcare is a critical role responsible for meeting the daily service repair needs of medical imaging equipment at customer locations. This remote role requires the candidate to reside in the Detroit Metro/Rochester Hills area and involves providing onsite support while occasionally working from a home office. The primary goal of this position is to drive customer satisfaction through service excellence, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally and that any issues are resolved promptly. In this role, the engineer will advance total system-level troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and service repair needs on designated medical imaging equipment. Responsibilities include completing preventative maintenance and field modification instructions, managing repair parts cycle times, and maintaining accurate customer service logs and internal service records. Daily communication with customers is essential to ensure timely resolution of issues and to foster strong relationships that lead to high levels of customer satisfaction. The Field Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining tools and test equipment, ensuring they are properly calibrated, and meeting all regulatory requirements related to health and safety. The role involves managing vendor service delivery processes in compliance with GE Healthcare policies and utilizing escalation processes to resolve service delivery issues. Additionally, the engineer may participate in sales opportunities, assist with contract renewals, and promote revenue programs. Training clinical staff on designated equipment and mentoring other field engineers on complex troubleshooting and technical fixes are also key aspects of this position. Quality and compliance are paramount in this role, with expectations to adhere to the GEHC Quality Manual and report any quality concerns immediately. Continuous improvement is encouraged, with the engineer expected to identify and escalate process and product quality gaps while providing solutions when possible.

Responsibilities

  • Advance total system level troubleshoot, install, maintain, and perform service repair needs on designated equipment.
  • Complete Preventative Maintenance and Field Modification Instruction.
  • Order and manage repair parts cycle times.
  • Maintain customer service logs and internal service records in a timely manner.
  • Maintain daily communications with customers to ensure resolution and proper follow-up, leading to customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain tools and test equipment properly and ensure they are calibrated.
  • Meet Health and Human Services, Environment Health, and Safety, and/or other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Manage vendors' service delivery processes in compliance with GE Healthcare policies.
  • Utilize the escalation process to resolve customer service delivery issues and conduct root cause analysis that will lead to effective problem solving.
  • Participate in sales opportunities such as contract renewals and assist with promoting and implementing revenue programs.
  • Work as a member of the local team to provide efficient and cost-effective service delivery to all accounts with assigned area.
  • May train clinical staff on designated equipment.
  • Teach and assist other Field Engineers on advanced and complex troubleshooting and technical fixes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field; OR equivalent military education; OR Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience servicing electronic and/or medical equipment; OR a High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 4 years of experience servicing electronic and/or medical equipment.
  • Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and responding to customer concerns.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
