About the position

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for conducting repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting, installation, and preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments at customer sites. The role requires excellent customer-facing skills and a proactive approach to resolving technical issues, ensuring customer satisfaction while managing an assigned territory and providing service as needed in other areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and installations of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Maintain excellent customer-facing skills and prioritize customer satisfaction.
  • Keep inventory and administrative records up to date.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of service processes and information.
  • Collaborate with other Field Service Engineers for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Resolve technical issues related to hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Proactively address instrument issues to prevent chronic problems by identifying root causes and developing action plans.
  • Stay current on equipment and tools through training, manuals, and technical bulletins.
  • Ensure accurate communication and documentation for product complaints per SOP.
  • Maintain records and reports, coordinating activities with peers, managers, and customers to minimize equipment downtime.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in electronics, engineering, biomedical technology, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field with science, engineering, and customer skills.
  • Ability to manage a large territory and perform service training, customer training, support, and repair of laboratory equipment.
  • Willingness to travel at least 75% of the time with overnight stays.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites with as little as 24 hours notice.
  • Availability to take at least 10 paid on-call weekends per year.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a routine basis.
