The Field Service Engineer is responsible for managing all aspects of field service support and customer relationship management including but not limited to: installation, repair, preventative maintenance, and instrument qualification. The Field Service Engineer will be customer-oriented, an advocate for Thermo Fisher Scientific, and eager to drive growth. In this role, you will perform on-site installation, repair, preventative maintenance, and qualification of instrumentation. You must be client-focused, working in conjunction with Professional Services and outsourcing functions. Proficiency with customer management software to track service calls, manage parts inventories, and complete job tasks is essential. You will review reports and documentation from customers and inspect malfunctioning products to determine the nature and scope of problems. Analyzing findings to determine the source of problems and recommending repair, replacement, or other corrective actions will be part of your responsibilities. You will coordinate problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs. Additionally, you will analyze instrument-generated chemistry and performance reports of technical issues to recommend factory modifications that eliminate future events of the same issue. Providing a communication link between the customer and the company to ensure effective service is provided is crucial. You will also develop and conduct training on the safe operations of the equipment and demonstrate skills to trainees, including both team members and customers (Chemists). Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Sciences or related field preferred.
  • 4+ years hands-on experience as a Service Engineer is preferred, particularly working with analytical instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, Ion Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry instrumentation (GC, HPLC, IC, MS) preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and establishing good customer rapport are essential.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize service requests and produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Must be available for travel daily as required, and up to 50% overnight travel.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
