About the position

The Field Service Engineer position at Actalent is a dynamic role that requires a blend of technical expertise and customer service skills. This position is primarily focused on the installation, repair, and maintenance of products at customer sites, with a significant travel requirement of 75%. The territory for this role encompasses the East Coast, including states such as Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Florida, Tennessee, and Ontario, Canada. Candidates must reside within driving distance of the Piscataway, NJ office to facilitate travel to various job sites. In this role, the engineer will spend a considerable amount of time traveling to customer locations, providing technical assistance, and ensuring that products are functioning optimally. The engineer will be responsible for completing work orders and field service reports with detailed information necessary for customer invoicing, warranty charges, and labor and materials charges. Additionally, the engineer will maintain notes in the customer service database and may assist with preparing quotations or RMAs when not directly engaged in work orders. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, effectively troubleshoot complex scenarios, and maintain multiple products with little to no external support. The role also involves creating technical documentation in collaboration with a technical writer, ensuring that all processes and procedures are well-documented for future reference. This position is suited for self-motivated individuals who are eager to learn and grow within the company, as well as those who possess strong customer service skills and technical acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains products at customer sites.
  • Travels 75% of the time within the East Coast territory.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a field service role or similar position.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time and obtain a passport for international travel as needed.
  • Experience in customer service-related roles for at least two years.
  • Proficient in installations and repairs on scientific instruments.
  • Ability to work with little or no direct supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for complex scenarios.
  • Experience with PC software and hardware, including operating systems and drivers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ServiceMax or similar software.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or SAP.
