About the position

The Field Service Engineer position involves executing customer support activities that include the installation, modification, and repair of complex nuclear measurement equipment and systems. The role requires on-site installation of this equipment, with a focus on the setup and configuration of Canberra hardware and software. Engineers will utilize established testing procedures and training to ensure the proper functioning of the systems. Additionally, the position entails providing familiarization to customers regarding the system hardware and software, as well as its basic modes of operation. Troubleshooting is a significant aspect of this role, where the engineer will need to isolate equipment malfunctions and take corrective actions. This involves analyzing hardware or software issues and working closely with Technical Support and Engineering teams to locate and rectify system faults. Engineers are also responsible for completing Field Reports and logs to ensure that all work performed is properly documented and that any problems encountered in the field are reported and addressed. The position requires a professional representation of the company in all dealings with customers, aiming to create a positive experience. The role is primarily based in Richmond, VA, but candidates can also reside in New Jersey, with a significant travel requirement of 75% weekly, typically leaving on Monday and returning on Thursday or Friday. The compensation for this role ranges from $75,000 to $85,000, depending on qualifications and experience, along with a quarterly bonus of up to $1,200.

Responsibilities

  • Execute customer support activities involving the installation, modification, and repair of complex nuclear measurement equipment and systems.
  • Conduct on-site installation of complex nuclear measurement equipment and systems, focusing on the setup/configuration of Canberra hardware and software.
  • Provide familiarization to the customer on system hardware/software and its basic modes of operation.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate equipment malfunctions and take corrective actions, analyzing hardware or software issues.
  • Work closely with Technical Support and Engineering to locate and correct system faults.
  • Complete Field Reports and logs to ensure work performed is properly documented and all problems in the field are reported and addressed.
  • Provide technical support via phone/email.
  • Represent the company professionally in all dealings with customers, creating a positive experience.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years in a technical/customer service position.
  • Excellent technical and customer relations experience to handle the diversity of systems and their applications.
  • Nuclear experience is required; Naval Nuclear Power Program experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Canberra products such as High Purity Germanium (HPGe) Detectors, Sodium Iodide (NaI) detectors, and Alpha Beta Counting Systems.
  • Experience using Canberra software such as Genie 2000, Apex Gamma, Apex In-Vivo, Eclipse, and Apex Alpha Beta.
  • Database management experience using SQL Server, Crystal Reports, and/or Access.
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Physics and Radiation Principles.
  • Understanding of Gamma Spectroscopy, Alpha/Beta Counting, and radiation detection principles is a plus.
