Field Service Engineer

About the position

Airgas is Hiring for a Field Service Engineer! This position is located in Cheshire, CT and requires a high level of initiative, curiosity, and potential to go beyond. The role involves collaborating with management, engineering, IT, safety, and production personnel on system support activities at AT&S across Airgas production facilities nationwide. The Field Service Engineer will assist with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams and serve as a cross-functional member on a multi-disciplined team to assist with the maintenance of automated gas filling, blending, and analytical systems. The position requires technical ability to build, repair, and maintain all systems within AT&S, as well as the ability to differentiate and resolve mechanical, electrical, analytical, and IT-related issues. Advanced troubleshooting skills are required for more sophisticated automation systems, both remote and on-site.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with management, engineering, IT, safety, and production personnel on system support activities.
• Assist with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
• Serve as a cross-functional member on a multi-disciplined team.
• Assist with maintenance of automated gas filling, blending, and analytical systems.
• Build, repair, and maintain all systems within AT&S.
• Differentiate and resolve mechanical, electrical, analytical, and IT-related issues.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting for sophisticated automation systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant field of study or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years’ experience safely installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex and safety-sensitive automated systems.
• 5+ years experience in an Industrial Gas Plant Environment.
• Knowledge of electrical codes: NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, NFPA 496, UL 508A, etc.
• 3-5 years' experience with industrial controls, computer and PLC networks, setup, and assistance.
• Demonstrable history of completing projects on time and within budget.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience managing and knowledge of Specialty Gases, Computer Engineering / IT, Electronics, Electrical systems, IO/ PLC control systems & methodologies, FEA, CFD, Hazops.
• Experience with PLC controls, HAZOP procedures, Vision systems, Robotics.
• High attention to detail and ability to interpret intricate drawings and instruction manuals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of complex variables.
