About the position

As a Field Service Engineer specializing in generators at Baker Hughes, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional service to our customers. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from home while being part of a global energy technology company that is committed to making energy safer, cleaner, and more efficient. You will be part of the BRUSH Field Service team, which focuses on providing industry-leading products and services that optimize the extraction, production, and processing of energy. Your primary responsibility will be to provide electrical and winding repair services to customers operating a wide range of original equipment, including generators, motors, and ancillary systems. In this role, you will be expected to comply with OSHA regulations, BRUSH standards, and other industry health and safety practices to protect both life and property. You will interpret machine performance data, instrumentation readings, and technical drawings to understand job scope requirements and assist in the performance of job functions. Hands-on experience is essential, as you will be overhauling and cleaning large generators, performing electrical testing to diagnose and repair winding faults, and carrying out mechanical strip downs and rebuilds to access winding work. Additionally, you will compose detailed technical reports for customer acceptance and documentation of work performed while on-site, and act as a liaison between the customer and BRUSH during technical meetings to ensure satisfactory service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with OSHA, BRUSH, site specific, and other industry standard health and safety practices to protect life and property.
  • Interpret machine performance data, instrumentation readings, test values, specifications, technical requirements, and technical drawings to understand job scope requirements.
  • Perform hands-on overhauling and cleaning of large generators, including necessary mechanical strip down and rebuild.
  • Conduct electrical testing to locate, diagnose, and repair winding faults.
  • Carry out basic mechanical strip down and rebuild of machines to access winding work and perform in-situ winding repairs and partial/full rewinds on high and low voltage machine windings.
  • Compose detailed and concise technical reports for customer acceptance and documentation of work performed on-site.
  • Attend technical meetings and functions as a liaison between the customer and BRUSH to ensure satisfactory service delivery.

Requirements

  • Technical degree from an accredited school.
  • 2+ years of field service experience with generator winding experience.
  • Competency with basic hand tools, multi-meters, megger, rigging, and generator special tooling.
  • Experience with generator high voltage testing such as PI, DC Leakage, and Hipot.
  • Familiarity with generator rotor and stator robotic test equipment such as RoGIS, MAGIC, and MAGIC Jr.
  • Ability and availability to travel domestically and internationally 75% - 85% of the time on short notice.
