About the position

The Field Service Technician II at Smiths Detection is responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, installing, and repairing advanced security screening equipment in various locations, primarily in the Fort Lauderdale Metro area. This role emphasizes customer satisfaction, technical expertise, and effective communication, ensuring that all service needs are met promptly and efficiently. The technician will maintain service logs, manage parts inventory, and participate in service sales opportunities while adhering to safety and compliance regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, service, install, and repair Trace, X-Ray, CT X-Ray, and Cargo Inspection equipment at customer sites.
  • Maintain field service logs and filing systems for all service and job files until work is completed.
  • Conduct follow-up calls with customers to ensure satisfaction with work performed.
  • Meet daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction through effective communication.
  • Install, repair, and maintain equipment in the field; provide customer training as required.
  • Respond to emergency and non-scheduled calls for service within established response time goals.
  • Document all inspections, maintenance, and repair work and submit paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Order, install, and return parts while managing repair parts cycle time.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of parts and tools.
  • Participate in service sales opportunities and assist with promoting revenue programs.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or related trade certification in electrical, electronic, or mechanical fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer focus and teamwork orientation.
  • Computer literacy, including competency in MS Office Suite and specialized software programs.
  • Ability to lift/carry 80 lbs and operate various equipment safely.

Nice-to-haves

  • Military training in electrical, mechanical, or electronics fields.
  • Experience in a related electrical or mechanical field service role.
