About the position

The Field Service Technician position at Liebherr USA Co. involves diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, specifically all-terrain mobile cranes and crawler cranes. The technician will be responsible for repairing virtually any part on these cranes, applying electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify operational electrical machinery, control equipment, and circuitry. Additionally, the role requires applying mechanical theory to test and modify operational machinery and equipment. The technician will operate mechanical boom and cable equipment to troubleshoot machine problems and evaluate the correctness and completeness of repairs performed on the machines. This position is specifically for the Eastern region of the United States, emphasizing the importance of punctuality, professional demeanor, and respectful communication with all levels of staff while promoting safety regulations and maintaining clean and orderly work areas. The technician will be expected to test mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer's specifications. Responsibilities include repairing and replacing damaged or worn parts, operating and inspecting machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects, dismantling and reassembling heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools, and performing routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles. The technician will also examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges, read and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings, and overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Furthermore, the technician will inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using various test instruments, verify dimensions and clearances of parts, complete assigned paperwork, and oversee the maintenance of quality standards through visual and mechanical inspection methods. Promoting a safe work environment by following established safety procedures and overseeing the handling and disposal of hazardous wastes is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts and pressure gauges.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Complete assigned paperwork as instructed.
  • Oversee the maintenance of quality standards through visual and mechanical inspection methods.
  • Promote a safe work environment by following established safety procedures.
  • Oversee the handling and disposing of hazardous wastes, such as toner, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner, and similar material.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED and at least one year of experience with heavy equipment or machinery, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated initiative to visualize, organize, manage, and complete projects in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
  • Proficiency in the use of PC based word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to multi-task while completing work in a competent and professional manner.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license.
