About the position

The Filtration Mechanical Life Support System Specialist is responsible for maintaining the daily operations of marine and animal life support systems at Shark Reef, Mandalay Bay. This role ensures optimal conditions for aquatic life by monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing maintenance on filtration and water quality systems while adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct repairs on all life support mechanical systems, including pumps for fresh and saltwater exhibits, temperature control systems, valves, and pressure regulators.
• Monitor and check filters, adhere to backwashing schedules, and make necessary adjustments, including monitoring exhibit temperatures and levels, as well as ozone generator settings.
• Conduct thorough monitoring of water quality, covering temperature, salinity, pH, ORP, and clarity, adhering to aquarium standards.
• Collaborate closely with aquarists in handling fish and reptiles.
• Maintain accurate records of water quality parameters, feeding schedules, health assessments, and any notable observations or incidents related to the animals' care.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education experience.
• 2 years of related experience in Aquatic Systems Maintenance and Life Support Systems Operations.
• Familiarity with municipal water, water processing, wastewater systems, or aquatic animal life support systems.
• Experience working with centrifugal pumps and motors.
• Experience working in an aquarium, zoo, or similar environment focused on animal care and aquatic systems.
• Hands-on experience with water chemistry analysis and treatment, filtration systems, and mechanical maintenance.
