About the position
As a Final Mile Driver at Southeastern Freight Lines, you will play a crucial role in the local transportation and delivery of freight, ensuring that shipments are handled with care and delivered in a timely manner. This position does not require a CDL-A license, allowing you to operate a non-CDL vehicle while performing essential duties that include picking up, transporting, and delivering freight. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods from their origin to their destination, while adhering to all safety regulations and company policies. In this role, you will be responsible for loading and unloading shipments, which may involve physical tasks such as lifting, pulling, and carrying freight. You will also be required to inspect your vehicle for any defects or safety issues before, during, and after your trips, and to submit a written Vehicle Condition Report at the end of each journey. It is essential to check shipping papers to confirm that hazardous materials are not included in your load, and to ensure that all necessary shipping documentation is available for inspection during deliveries. Additionally, you will be tasked with properly handling and completing all paperwork related to vehicle operations and freight movements. This includes manifest sheets, security seal sheets, bills of lading, shipping orders, and freight bills. Your attention to detail and commitment to following procedures will be vital in maintaining the high standards of service that Southeastern Freight Lines is known for.
Responsibilities
- Pick up, transport, and deliver freight locally in a non-CDL vehicle.
- Load and unload shipments, either individually or with assistance.
- Perform frequent lifting, pulling, and carrying of freight.
- Inspect vehicle for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after trips.
- Submit a written Vehicle Condition Report on the vehicle's condition at the end of each trip.
- Check shipping papers to ensure hazardous materials are not present.
- Ensure all shipping documentation is available for inspection and accompanies the shipment when delivered.
- Properly handle and complete all necessary paperwork related to vehicle operations and freight movements.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Ability to satisfactorily pass a background check and alcohol and drug test.
- Valid Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
- At least 6 months of driving experience, including personal motor vehicle driving.
- Willingness to enter Southeastern's Driver Trainee Program after one year in the Final Mile Driver role.

- Previous experience with Pallet Jack.
- Experience in loading and unloading freight.
- Experience as a Box Truck driver.

- Possession of a CDL B license.
