About the position

The Finance & Accounting Consultant for the Municipal Technical Advisory Service provides expert advice and technical assistance in municipal financial management to cities across Tennessee. This role involves direct client support, research, development of technical reports, and teaching municipal training courses. The consultant will work closely with municipal officials and state agencies to address a wide range of financial issues, ensuring effective financial operations and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice and technical assistance to municipal officials and state agencies.
• Conduct comprehensive utility rate studies and capital budgeting.
• Develop and teach training courses for city officials, including CMFO program courses.
• Research and maintain publications on critical financial issues for various audiences.
• Maintain close working relationships with appointed and elected city officials.
• Update and maintain agency databases for internal and external use.
• Participate in professional development activities, including meetings and training classes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's preferred).
• Eight years of work experience in a financial-related position with five years in governmental accounting (or five years with a master's degree).
• Knowledge of municipal financial operations and GAAP.
• Strong managerial, analytical, conceptual, and interpersonal skills.
