About the position

The Finance Business Intelligence Analyst at William Blair will play a crucial role in supporting the execution of business analysis processes in collaboration with senior analysts. This position involves compiling relevant data and materials to assist with various financial analyses, which include budgets, forecasts, and product P&L statements. The analyst will also be responsible for drafting internal management reports, creating sales reporting for commingled vehicles, and calculating sales force compensation, which encompasses tracking sales incentive plan metrics. The role requires a commitment to high-quality, timely deliverables while adhering to established policies, procedures, and regulations. In addition to these responsibilities, the Finance Business Intelligence Analyst will prepare data for benchmarking surveys and will be expected to continuously expand their financial knowledge. Building relationships with key stakeholders across the organization and staying informed about industry and regulatory changes will be essential for success in this role. The analyst will also have the opportunity to recommend improvements to financial policies and procedures, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the finance team. Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior analysts to execute business analysis processes, such as omnibus sales reporting and internal management reporting.
  • Compile pertinent supporting data and materials and assist with various financial analyses, including budgets, forecasts, team and product P&L statements, expense tracking, and revenue reconciliations.
  • Draft internal management reports to be reviewed by senior staff, including quarterly management reports, sales reports, and commission reports.
  • Identify trends and opportunities, and examine variances from quarter to quarter and year-to-year, noting key results.
  • Create commingled vehicle sales reporting in compliance with established standards.
  • Calculate sales force compensation and track key sales incentive plan metrics, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Prepare data for benchmarking surveys.
  • Continue to expand financial knowledge and expertise, developing relationships with counterparts in the external marketplace.
  • Stay abreast of industry and regulatory changes and trends.
  • Recommend improvements to financial policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • 1-5 years of financial services experience.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
  • Solid understanding of investment management business, financial analysis, and business operations.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with a commitment to understanding others.
  • Demonstrates initiative and persistence in tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
