About the position

The Finance Director at Copper Shores Community Health Foundation plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial health and sustainability of the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO/President, this position requires a strategic and hands-on leader who will ensure that all financial activities and accounting functions are aligned with the organization's goals. The Finance Director will be a key member of the executive team, responsible for maintaining compliance with financial regulations and collaborating with the Director of Human Resources/Compliance on payroll and benefits administration, retirement plan compliance, and other accreditation and licensing matters. In this role, the Finance Director will administer all accounting functions, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting activities. They will evaluate and implement internal accounting controls to safeguard organizational assets and work closely with the CEO/President to develop the annual operating budget, conduct cost analysis, and create financial projections. The Finance Director will oversee all accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, grants accounting, and general ledger management, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing while complying with all payroll laws and regulations. The Finance Director will manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors to ensure timely completion, and will support the CEO/President and Treasurer by preparing various reports for committee review and Board presentations. They will also oversee the development of funding requests and review grant proposals for appropriateness, making recommendations to the CEO/President and Finance/Investment Committee. This role requires a commitment to fiscally sound practices, ensuring that Copper Shores operates within budgetary constraints while developing and managing financial policies and procedures for efficient operations. Additionally, the Finance Director will supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. They will provide training and development opportunities for team members and collaborate with other executive team members to implement organizational strategies. The Finance Director will also participate in executive team meetings, strategic planning sessions, and other key initiatives, attending trainings and meetings related to the position for professional growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and provide for all accounting including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting activities
  • Evaluate and implement appropriate internal accounting controls to ensure the safeguarding of organizational assets
  • Work collaboratively with the CEO/President on the development of Copper Shores annual operating budget, cost analysis, and financial projections
  • Responsible for all accounting activities including accounts payable and receivable, grants accounting and reporting, chart of accounts, and general ledger management
  • Oversee all payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Manage payroll records and reporting, including tax filings and employee benefit deductions
  • Address and resolve any payroll-related issues or discrepancies
  • Manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely completion
  • Support the CEO/President and Treasurer and prepare various reports for committee review and Board presentations
  • Oversee the development of requests for funding, review of grant proposals/applications for appropriateness, and make recommendations to the CEO/President and Finance/Investment Committee
  • Engage in fiscally sound practices on behalf of Copper Shores to ensure it operates within budgetary constraints

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance or other related field
  • Three years practical accounting experience
  • Master's degree in business administration, or public administration or related field (desirable)
  • Experience administering a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation or non-profit conversion foundation (desirable)
  • Professional certification such as CFRE, CFA, CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications (desirable)
  • Three years practical non-profit accounting experience (desirable)
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles
  • Excellent interpersonal oral/written communications skills
  • Proven leadership ability and collaborative management skills
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and the ability to manage budgets
  • Demonstrated success in building partnerships within the business community
  • Experience in evaluating capital investment opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with banking/investment companies
  • Experience with selection and implementation of information systems for non-profit entities
