About the position
The Financial Clearance Associate in Patient Access at Baptist Health South Florida is responsible for obtaining and verifying necessary demographic and insurance information for patients. This role involves scheduling appointments and procedures, coordinating patient flow, and ensuring compliance with quality metrics in a call center environment. The associate will also assist in departmental initiatives and maintain knowledge of insurance requirements and financial assistance options.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and verify necessary demographic and insurance information, including authorizations and referrals.
- Schedule patient appointments and procedures, including initial, follow-up, and add-on appointments.
- Meet individual quality metrics in a call center environment.
- Coordinate patient flow and timely processing of information.
- Maintain knowledge of insurance requirements and Baptist Health South Florida pricing.
- Support departmental initiatives, including onboarding and training team members.
- Participate in departmental committees and champion opportunities.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- For internal staff: Minimum of 1 year Patient Access experience with demonstrated ability to perform all functions independently.
- For external staff: Associate's Degree preferred with 1 year Patient Access experience, or 2 years' experience in lieu of degree.
- Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented and organized with excellent customer service skills.
- Compassionate and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory guidelines including HIPAA, AHCA, EMTALA, and Medicare coverage structure.
- Understanding of insurance contracts, collections, authorizations, and pre-certifications.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and EMR applications.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole.
