About the position

The Financial Reporting Manager at The Research Foundation for SUNY plays a crucial role in overseeing the GAAP financial close and reporting processes on a quarterly and annual basis. This position involves managing corporate accounting and taxation projects, particularly the implementation of new accounting standards, and developing the internal control structure. The incumbent will supervise financial accounting controls, manage external audit processes, and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage key corporate financial accounting processes including quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Report key financial statement trends and issues to senior managers.
  • Review journal entries prepared by staff accountants utilizing Oracle Workflow.
  • Liaise with external auditors to coordinate fieldwork during audits.
  • Track significant unusual transactions impacting financial reporting.
  • Review unusual campus transactions and make necessary journal entries.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of net assets among campus locations.
  • Supervise fixed asset recording by Campus Operations staff.
  • Oversee accounting for post-retirement benefit expenses and related filings.
  • Assist in preparation and review of annual federal and state tax filings.
  • Monitor revenue recognition compliance and follow-up with sponsored programs.
  • Ensure internal control documentation is updated and manage audits of internal controls.
  • Lead system changes and manage change control processes for accounting integration.
  • Create efficiencies in departmental assignments and lead special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting.
  • CPA eligible with intent to pursue license; candidates with CPA license may have less experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with financial statement audits as auditor or auditee.
  • Excellent communication and emotional intelligence skills.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of Oracle system operation preferred.
