Fire Code Compliance Officer

About the position

Under the general supervision of the Division Chief/Fire Marshal and/or a Deputy Fire Marshal, performs routine on-site inspections of new and existing facilities for compliance with approved plans and specifications; and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine on-site inspections of new and existing facilities for compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations based on inspection findings.
• Communicate effectively both in writing and orally with the public and other agencies.
• Recognize potential fire hazards and ensure compliance with fire prevention laws and regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections and findings.

Requirements

• The equivalent of two years full time experience in fire prevention in a field inspection agency or a fire department.
• Completion of the Fire Inspection 1 Series (Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D) may substitute for one year of full time experience.
• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of fire prevention.
• Knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances and regulations governing the Fire Prevention Bureau.
• Ability to perform detailed inspections and analyze findings.
