About the position

Total Safety is seeking a dedicated Fire Protection Technician to join our safety-conscious team in Sulphur, LA. The Fire Technician will be responsible for providing comprehensive service, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of various fire protection equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, portable and semi-portable fire extinguishers, lifesaving equipment, fire and gas detection systems, foam systems, dry chemical systems, gaseous suppression systems, and water-based fire protection systems. As a Fire Technician, you will perform both shop service and field inspections, ensuring that all fire equipment is functioning correctly and meets safety standards. You will be tasked with completing all necessary documentation associated with inspections and repairs in a timely and accurate manner, obtaining customer signatures for proper invoicing. Your role will also involve conducting detailed visual inspections and system functional tests, reporting any deficiencies, and recommending corrective actions to customers. In addition to technical responsibilities, you will assist in maintaining a clean and orderly work area, perform basic maintenance on assigned vehicles or trailers, and learn to rig-up and utilize a variety of safety equipment. Responsibilities

  • Perform shop service and/or field inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire equipment.
  • Complete all documentation associated with inspection and repair in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct detailed visual inspections and system functional tests of various systems and equipment.
  • Conduct pre-job, job update, and post-job completion briefs.
  • Assist in stocking shelves with clean, tested, and ready-to-use equipment.
  • Maintain work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer.
  • Learn to rig-up and use a wide range of safety equipment.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery or related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate electronic safety equipment and understand fire systems and components.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, reassemble, and test electronic safety equipment in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose assigned equipment problems and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
  • Knowledge of all regulatory standards pertaining to assigned responsibilities, including State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
  • Knowledge of applicable Code of Federal Regulations, Coast Guard and ABS regulations if offshore.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations in all units of measure.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site-specific, facility and customer required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Trained in Respiratory Protection and fully certified to wear respiratory breathing equipment where required.

  • Associate degree, technical or military training preferred.
