About the position

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is looking for a Deli/Bakery Clerk who is passionate about the retail grocery market and organic products. This position involves keeping all food service cases stocked and clean during business hours, assisting customers, and maintaining a friendly demeanor. The role requires adherence to procedural guidelines set by the Food Service Department and offers an opportunity to be part of a fast-growing company that promotes from within.

Responsibilities

• Ensures cleanliness of deli/bakery cases, storage area, and work area for safety.
• Stocks deli/bakery cases, ensuring presentation, facing, filling, and organization of products.
• Examines the rotation of all deli/bakery products, discarding outdated or spoiled items.
• Responds positively to customer inquiries and assists with purchases and product selection.
• Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
• Monitors point of purchase signs and ensures availability of recipe cards and promotional material.
• Operates and uses equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, and pallet jacks.
• Prepares various deli/bakery items using appropriate ingredients and cooking times.
• Uses knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
• Participates in pre-inventory preparation, ensuring tags match products.
• Sustains a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
• Walks department regularly to ensure an organized and clean appearance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency degree.
• Preferred 1-2 years grocery retail experience in Food Service department processes and procedures.
• Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations in a grocery retail environment.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Skills working with food service equipment such as knives, slicers, scales, and ovens.
