About The Position

The Forensic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the forensic unit, supervising staff involved in the collection and preservation of criminal evidence, and processing crime scenes. This role includes administrative and technical duties, staff training, and ensuring efficient operations within the forensic discipline. The supervisor may also act as the Forensic Manager in their absence and is expected to maintain communication with law enforcement and other city departments.

Requirements

  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience in crime scene processing or related forensic field with a law enforcement agency.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Criminal Justice, Crime Scene Technology, Forensic Science, or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, assign, review, and participate in the work of assigned forensic staff.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate department staff; provide or coordinate staff training.
  • Monitor schedules and methods for providing forensic services; implement procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain daily contact with personnel and assist with service requests.
  • Complete timely and accurate employee evaluations and provide performance improvement guidance.
  • Conduct inspections of personnel, equipment, and vehicles; coordinate daily work schedules.
  • Request equipment and supplies to meet the unit's needs.
  • Organize and maintain files necessary for supervisory tasks.
  • Review case folders for accuracy and completeness; conduct administrative and technical reviews.
  • Serve as shift supervisory liaison for the Forensic Unit with police officers and other departments.
  • Attend and participate in continuing education and leadership development training.
  • Testify in court as a qualified witness regarding crime scene processing and evidence examination.
