About the position

The Foundry Worker position at Boose Aluminum Foundry Co., Inc. involves a variety of essential job functions aimed at ensuring the quality and efficiency of the casting production process. The role requires adherence to shop card instructions, which must be reviewed and signed for verification. Workers are expected to notify supervisors or leaders if additional information is needed on shop cards or if changes are required. It is crucial for the worker to ensure that copies of shop cards accompany the core or casting throughout the production process, maintaining a clear record of operations. Continuous quality checks of castings are a significant part of the job, with workers collaborating with supervisors and leaders to address any issues that arise. The processing of sample work is prioritized, and proper documentation must be maintained for future production runs. Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is essential to uphold quality control standards for both processes and products. The role encompasses various specific tasks depending on the equipment being operated, such as the Rotolift, Hunter, and Green Sand systems. Responsibilities include inspecting patterns for defects, setting up machinery, sieving sand, pouring metal, and ensuring molds are prepared correctly. Workers must also maintain accurate records of molds produced and poured, and keep the work area clean and organized according to 6S standards. Safety is paramount, with mandatory personal protective equipment required at all times, and adherence to safety rules and procedures is strictly enforced.

Responsibilities

  • Review and follow shop card instructions, signing each for verification.
  • Notify Supervisor or Leader if shop card needs additional information or changes.
  • Ensure copies of shop cards travel with the core/casting throughout production.
  • Continuously check casting quality and work with supervisors/leaders to correct problems.
  • Process sample work as the highest priority and maintain proper documentation for future production runs.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to maintain quality control of processes and products.
  • Inspect patterns before/during production for defects and notify Supervisor/Leader of any errors.
  • Set up Rotolift and Hunter equipment according to job specifications.
  • Sieve sand from overhead bins and compress for proper hardness, having Supervisor/Leader check periodically.
  • Ensure correct size sprue and sprue location on molds, cleaning any openings as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of molds produced and poured, back printing the first mold of each production/sample run.
  • Refill furnaces with ingot/liquid metal as needed and degas metal as required.
  • Retrieve and pour metal into molds, ensuring sprue is kept full and removing jackets and weights before dumping molds.
  • Operate pneumatic tools to assist in removing cores from castings and examine castings for defects.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret shop cards and follow instructions accurately.
  • Experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality control processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and personal protective equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  • Basic mechanical skills to operate and maintain foundry equipment.
