About the position

The Freight Broker Dispatch Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a freight brokerage, including full cycle dispatching. This role involves training new candidates in the freight industry, managing a team of representatives, and ensuring efficient shipment scheduling and delivery. The manager will also develop training materials and programs to enhance the skills of trainees and ensure compliance with client standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an existing team of representatives within the company.
  • Ensure that day-to-day shipments are scheduled with carriers, picked up, and delivered.
  • Proactively ensure representatives reach out to existing clients for new shipments and updates on existing shipments.
  • Oversee trainees in the fundamentals of the freight transportation industry.
  • Develop assignments, quizzes, and activities to evaluate trainee performance.
  • Implement certification programs to ensure compliance with client standards.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, including e-learning modules and guides.
  • Select training tools that fit company needs and collaborate with sales and client success teams.
  • Develop customer-specific training curriculum and courses as needed.
  • Provide continuous learning opportunities for trainees to keep up with industry changes.
  • Supervise the training team and monitor performance to meet training goals.

Requirements

  • Must have 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in the transportation industry.
  • Substantial experience in the operational phases of a transit organization.
  • Extensive experience in freight brokering for full truckload, volume, and LTL shipments.
  • Experience using common TMS systems.
  • Experience collaborating with shippers, carriers, and dispatchers to manage scheduled shipments.
  • Ability to update customers on shipment status and assist with inquiries.
  • Experience managing freight claims directly with carriers.
  • Experience disputing rebills using appropriate documentation.
  • Experience with DAT Power, Truckstop.com, and Post Everywhere.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations, OSHA, and DOT rules and regulations.
  • Experience in international freight forwarding, warehousing, and customs clearance is a plus.
  • Good time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
