About The Position

The Code Services Supervisor in the Building/Code Services Division of Ogden City Corporation is responsible for enforcing animal control laws and managing the care and handling of domestic and wild animals. This role involves patrolling the city, responding to animal-related complaints, and ensuring compliance with city ordinances. The supervisor will also oversee the euthanasia process when necessary and maintain effective communication with the public and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in the raising and/or handling of domestic animals.
  • Training equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Utah Driver's License.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Euthanasia Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals.
  • Basic bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Experience with modern office methods, procedures, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish schedules and methods for effective operations.
  • Plan routine patrols to search for stray animals.
  • Patrol City streets and roads to search for stray dogs, domestic animals, and livestock.
  • Enforce City animal control laws and explain ordinances to the public.
  • Issue citations for violations of the animal control ordinance.
  • Impound, quarantine, and euthanize animals as appropriate.
  • Determine whether injured animals should be treated or euthanized and contact a veterinarian as needed.
  • Investigate reports of animal abuse and take appropriate action.
  • Receive lost and found animal reports and assist visitors in locating missing pets.
  • Administer animal euthanasia injections as required.
  • Maintain vehicle equipment in proper working condition and clean and repair as necessary.
  • Coordinate assigned cases with the City Attorney, District Attorney, and courts as needed.
  • Write requests for search warrants and summons and appear in court on applicable cases.
  • Perform general office duties including answering calls, typing letters, and filing documents.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports.
