Under the supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Services Medical Director and Department Manager, the therapist will follow specific physician orders and adhere to departmental policies and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care. This position requires a thorough understanding of various oxygen delivery methods and the necessary equipment, as well as the ability to assess and manage potential side effects associated with oxygen therapy. In this role, the Respiratory Therapist will administer respiratory therapy treatments, set up and monitor mechanical ventilators, and perform critical care duties such as airway management and tracheal suctioning. The therapist will also be responsible for assessing patient pain levels that may interfere with rehabilitation and will communicate effectively with physicians for necessary interventions. Additionally, the role involves performing arterial and capillary punctures for blood gas analysis, adhering to sterilization procedures, and documenting all relevant patient data accurately. The therapist must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of treatment modalities for patients across various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics. Knowledge of medication dosages and oxygen concentrations is essential, as is the ability to follow medication rights to minimize errors. The position emphasizes patient safety, requiring the therapist to manage and operate equipment safely, perform airway management, and conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when necessary. The therapist will also initiate hemodynamic monitoring and perform endotracheal intubation as needed. Continuous professional development through education and training is expected, along with the completion of additional duties as assigned by the department manager.
