Consumers Energy - Grayling, MI
posted 5 months ago
Join the diverse and dynamic team that powers Michigan's largest energy provider and one of the nation's largest gas and electric combination utilities. Consumers Energy services 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents - caring for our friends and neighbors in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. We embrace a cleaner and leaner utility vision focused on eliminating energy waste and adding renewable energy from sources such as wind and solar. The Grayling Generating Station plant is a 38 MW biomass-fueled renewable energy power plant that produces electricity. The fuel consists primarily of bark and sawdust from local lumber mills and the non-marketable biomass from lumbering operations. The power produced supports the health of the forests, mitigates greenhouse gases (is "carbon neutral"), conserves landfill space and supports the electric grid in northern Michigan. The electric output is sold pursuant to a long-term power purchase agreement with Consumers Energy Company. This facility can produce enough electricity to power approximately 38,000 homes. Commercial operation began in 1992. The Fuel Supply Operator is responsible for operating fuel and/or ash handling equipment, which may include wheel loaders, track-driven dozers, and various machinery in a safe and efficient manner. This role involves receiving, unloading, mixing, staging, and stacking/storing fuel in accordance with established fuel handling procedures. The operator will also perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on mobile/fuel train equipment routinely and thoroughly, maintain accurate operational logs, and ensure a clean and safe work area. The position requires adherence to plant safety rules and procedures, inspection of fuel deliveries, and the ability to perform various routine duties that may require minor decisions. The operator must complete Position Qualification Requirements (PQR) as assigned and perform all other related duties as required.
