About the position

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Diverse Learners Teacher for the upcoming fiscal year 2024. This position is crucial in providing high-quality education to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring that every child receives the support necessary to thrive academically and socially. Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress tracking, and discipline of all students in assigned classes, while also performing other duties as required. The role emphasizes collaboration with case managers, counselors, and general education teachers to assess and address the instructional and social needs of students, thereby promoting their overall well-being. The Diverse Learners Teacher will set achievable goals for each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in accordance with the State of Illinois guidelines. Utilizing the CPS Framework for Teaching, the teacher will engage in a continuous improvement process to refine their teaching practices. This includes demonstrating a deep understanding of content and pedagogy, creating a respectful classroom culture, and designing engaging instruction that meets the diverse needs of all students. The teacher will also prioritize student safety and adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the teacher will advocate for the district's vision, which emphasizes equity, cultural competence, and high expectations for all students. The position requires excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and sound professional judgment in interactions with students, families, and colleagues. The Diverse Learners Teacher will also be expected to personalize student learning through innovative use of curriculum supplements and technology resources, fostering an inclusive and supportive educational atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and track the progress of all students in assigned classes.
  • Set achievable goals for individualized education plans (IEPs) in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Collaborate with case managers, counselors, and general education teachers to assess and address students' instructional and social needs.
  • Create a respectful classroom culture that promotes effective student learning and growth.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • A valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education, endorsed in LBS1.
  • Completion of the CPS online application and teaching profile at cps.edu/teach.
