The Teacher, Special Education (PEP) at Forest Knolls Elementary School is responsible for providing direct and consultative services to children aged three to five who have disabilities in two or more developmental areas. This role involves assessing, planning, and delivering instruction based on the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) pre-kindergarten curriculum outcomes tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. The teacher will collaborate with various staff members, including coordinators, program support teachers, related service providers, parent educators, and paraeducators, to develop strategies and accommodations that facilitate access to the curriculum and the school environment. A critical aspect of this position is the ability to administer assessments, accurately interpret and analyze data, and write concise educational assessment reports that inform instructional practices and support student development. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the teacher will utilize their knowledge of early childhood intervention techniques to address the needs of children with multiple developmental delays. This includes understanding typical and atypical development in early childhood, implementing effective behavior intervention strategies, and developing functional behavior assessments and behavioral intervention plans. The teacher must also possess excellent organizational skills to manage student information effectively and establish routines that promote a positive classroom environment. Strong communication and human relations skills are essential for building relationships with students, families, and colleagues, ensuring a collaborative approach to education. This part-time position requires a commitment of 0.5 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE), equating to 40 hours bi-weekly, and is scheduled for 10 months of the year.
