About the position
The Geotechnical Engineer 8 position at CDM Smith is a senior-level role focused on leading and expanding the geotechnical discipline within the company. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and leadership on multidisciplinary projects, particularly in the areas of dams, levees, and other infrastructure. This role involves collaborating with sales teams to drive growth, mentoring technical staff, and engaging with clients across various markets. The position allows for partial remote work and is based in multiple locations across the Southeast United States.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, management, and technical expertise for a variety of multidisciplinary projects including dams and reservoirs, levees and floodwalls, and heavy-civil works.
- Position the company ahead of market challenges by identifying and showcasing technical differentiators.
- Expand dam and levee-related geotechnical business to complement other CDM Smith business lines.
- Serve as a technical specialist in advanced geotechnical engineering theories and processes.
- Recruit, retain, and mentor technical employees.
- Anticipate and adopt new technologies to solve client challenges.
- Collaborate with other discipline leaders to cultivate innovative solutions and research projects.
- Drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 15 years of related experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Graduate degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering emphasis.
- Working knowledge of FLAC 2D/3D or Plaxis 2D/3D.
- Experience in dams, levees, trenchless design, tunnels, or geo-environmental projects.
- Experience with staff management, project management, and business development.
