About the position

The GIS Analyst position at the County of San Juan involves implementing and maintaining applications and services for the Geographic Information System (GIS) department. The role requires a combination of technical skills in GIS software, data management, and customer support, aimed at enhancing the county's spatial data capabilities and providing assistance to various departments and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the GIS system for the County's spatial data needs.
  • Provide tier 1 and tier 2 support for GIS requests from other County departments, businesses, and the public.
  • Develop maps that display specific data requested by customers.
  • Work on tasks focused on achieving the long-term goals of the GIS program.
  • Implement new and updated information received from the field and test and install updates to the system software.
  • Research new software and hardware for use in planning and train employees when needed.
  • Develop new applications for the GIS system in ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online.
  • Meet with various departments and outside organizations to explain GIS resources and recommend services.
  • Participate in local GIS user groups and meetings to promote communication and data distribution.
  • Assist with the management of the County's geospatial data repositories using SQL Server and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Support mobile and web development processes including design, coding, testing, and management of web interfaces and mobile applications.
  • Assist with web server and MSSQL Server administration and management.
  • Perform complex data processing tasks related to LiDAR data for county projects.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks effectively and see them through to completion.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree and two years of experience in a GIS related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • ESRI Software Training Certification.
  • Pass an initial comprehensive criminal background check and be subject to periodic background checks.
  • Valid Part 107 Certification or able to obtain within twelve months of employment.
  • Valid State of New Mexico Driver's license or able to obtain within six months of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Experience creating web map applications with ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Experience with ArcPy scripting.
