About the position

The Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer at Lockheed Martin will focus on Modeling and Simulation of complex technical solutions within the Missiles and Fire Control sector. This role involves working with a skilled team to design, develop, and validate models and simulations, ensuring system performance in various scenarios. The engineer will also support ground and flight test efforts and participate in program reviews and technical meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document model and simulation requirements and architecture.
  • Develop, verify, and validate complex models and simulations such as missile 6-degree-of-freedom simulations.
  • Evaluate system performance in complex scenarios and verify system and subsystem level requirements.
  • Perform critical studies, analyses, and test activities.
  • Support ground and flight test efforts including Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) activities.
  • Support program reviews and technical interchange meetings with internal leadership and/or external customers.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Willingness to work onsite in a classified area or lab environment.
  • BS or MS degree in computer science, physics, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, or similar.
  • Proficient in C++.
  • Proficient in either Matlab or Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and analyze algorithms such as guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial tracking, and servo control algorithms.
  • Experience in developing and/or verifying complex vehicle models and simulations such as missile 6-degree-of-freedom simulations.
  • Strong math skills in linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformations.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with Python and Linux.
  • Experience with Agile development.
  • Ability to perform preflight system performance assessment and post flight verification analyses.
  • Experience deploying algorithms that satisfy real-time performance requirements.
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines and software version control such as Git.
