About the position

As a Grocery/Lead Clerk, you will play a pivotal role in creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Your primary responsibility will be to establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. You will assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department while monitoring all established quality assurance standards. This position requires you to demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety in all interactions with customers and associates. In this role, you will promote trust and respect among associates, fostering a positive attitude within the team. You will create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store. Gaining and maintaining knowledge of products sold within the department will be essential, as you will be expected to respond to inquiries and make suggestions about products. You will also have the opportunity to offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about, and inform them of grocery specials. Your responsibilities will include providing customers with fresh products that they have ordered, recommending grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need, and checking product quality to ensure freshness. You will review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action, label, stock, and inventory department merchandise, and report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager. Staying current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads will be crucial, as will adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines. You will ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and that temperature logs are kept up to date. Additionally, you will reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management. Preventive maintenance will also be part of your duties, as you will inspect equipment and notify the appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair. Lastly, you will be responsible for notifying management of customer or employee accidents and reporting all safety risks or issues, including robbery, theft, or fraud. It is essential that you can perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).
