About the position
The Hair Global Development Intern at DreamWorks Animation is an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in a studio environment. The intern will work closely with the Hair Global Development Group, focusing on the development of tools for hair, fur, and feathers used in animated productions. This role involves learning about workflows, writing tools, running tests, troubleshooting issues, and documenting processes, all while being immersed in the creative culture of DreamWorks.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of tools for hair, fur, and feathers across production.
- Familiarize with hair, fur, and feather workflows.
- Write tools and run tests in production shots.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing.
- Demo tool usage to artists and write documentation.
- Participate in production shot work to understand the tools and workflows.
Requirements
- Pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate degree or be a recent graduate (within six months of graduation).
- Experience with computer animation software such as Houdini and Maya.
- Experience with Python programming.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- For remote internships, must have own equipment and stable high-speed internet connection.
- For hybrid internships, must be willing to work in Glendale, California.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with a team to create computer animated shots for a project or short film.
- Knowledge of general grooming, simulation, and deformer workflows.
- Familiarity with Maya API, Houdini HDK, and Houdini Digital Asset construction.
- Familiarity with C++ and Houdini VEX language.
