About the position

The Hardware Engineer will serve as a component engineer, primarily assisting the design team with component selection, availability searches, and procurement for high-reliability applications in mil-aero avionics and space flight programs. This role requires a detailed understanding of component handling and reliability, along with the ability to manage BOM for fabrication and assembly processes. The engineer will also interface with vendors and support hardware integration through software development and debugging.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the design team with primary component selection and availability searches.
  • Manage BOM (Bill of Materials) for fabrication, including kit assembly and maintenance of component inventory.
  • Interface with fabrication and assembly vendors, providing real-time decision-making support.
  • Provide schematic capture and layout support for design engineers.
  • Write, test, and debug LINUX-based utilities and VHDL test benches for hardware integration.

Requirements

  • Proven track record supporting space flight programs as a component engineer.
  • In-depth understanding of component selection, procurement, handling, reliability, and storage.
  • Expert proficiency with Mentor Graphics Modelsim, Questa, DxDesigner, and Expedition.
  • Experience interfacing with high-reliability PCB fabrication and assembly vendors.
  • Knowledge of CAD file formats related to PCB fabrication and assembly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Xilinx Chipscope for Versal FPGAs and Ultrascale+ MPSoCs.
  • Experience with debug and handling of space flight hardware.
  • Excellent lab debug skills.
  • Ability to work in an exclusively Linux-based environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with terrestrial network standards including SONET, OTN, GFP, HDLC standards and RTL implementation methods.
  • Additional programming languages including Perl, TCL, and System C.
