About the position

The Hardware Engineering Technician role at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories involves supporting engineering teams by performing electronic hardware tests, building prototypes, and assisting in the evaluation of new components. The position requires a solid understanding of electronics and offers opportunities for professional growth in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic electronic hardware tests in accordance with defined engineering procedures or guidelines under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.
  • Build engineering prototypes under the direction of an electrical engineer or experienced technician, documenting the construction and maintaining pertinent engineering records.
  • Assist engineers in the evaluation of new electronic components.
  • Assemble test fixtures, load banks, and other components common to product development.
  • Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) of modest complexity under the direction of engineers or more experienced technicians.

Requirements

  • Two-year electronic technology or related associate degree.
  • Working knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
  • Familiarity with scripting and programming languages such as Python and C.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with C and assembly languages.
  • Experience with O.S. and computer equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems.
