About the position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Hardware Quality Assurance Engineer to join our Systems and Operations Assurance Department. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and reliability of space systems hardware throughout the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing phases. As a member of our high-performing and collaborative team, you will apply your fundamental Quality Engineering expertise across the full program lifecycle, identifying and evaluating risks, trade-offs, and mitigation plans tailored to specific QA requirements. You will employ a rigorous and methodical approach to problem-solving and root cause analysis, participating in gated design and hardware production readiness reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, and PSR, providing technical assessments and recommendations to customers. In this position, you will also participate in hardware Failure Review Boards, providing risk assessments and recommendations to customers. Your responsibilities will include performing mandatory inspections of electronic hardware at prime contractors and sub-tier suppliers/subcontractors, conducting independent pedigree, End Item Data Package, and Hardware Acceptance reviews. You will develop and execute process and product assessments and audits, starting from audit/assessment planning through to the verification of corrective and/or preventive actions. Delivering independent, data-driven technical advice and feedback to management and customers through effective verbal and written communication will be essential. Additionally, you will be required to travel to customer and/or government facilities, representing the company and department in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Apply fundamental Quality Engineering expertise and concepts across a full program lifecycle
  • Identify and evaluate risks, trade-offs, and mitigation plans for tailored QA requirements
  • Employ a rigorous and methodical approach to problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • Participate in gated design and hardware production readiness reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, PSR) providing technical assessments and recommendations to customers
  • Participate in hardware Failure Review Boards providing risk assessments and recommendations to customers
  • Perform electronic hardware mandatory inspections at prime contractors and sub-tier suppliers/subcontractors
  • Perform independent pedigree, End Item Data Package and Hardware Acceptance reviews
  • Develop and execute process and product assessments and audits beginning with audit/assessment planning through verification of corrective and/or preventive actions
  • Deliver independent, data-driven technical advice and feedback to management and customers through effective, compelling verbal and written communication
  • Travel to customer and/or government facilities while representing the company and department in a professional manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field in science
  • 5 years of technical experience as a quality or manufacturing Engineer in aerospace-related manufacturing
  • Experience with QMS standards including ISO 9001 and/or AS9100
  • Experience with workmanship standards including IPC J-STD-001 and NASA 8739.x series
  • Experience working with suppliers and subcontractors to resolve technical issues
  • Experience performing audits and participating on Independent Review Teams (IRTs)
  • Familiarity with industry compliance standards and contract flow down
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and nonconformance reports
  • Ability to travel to contractor and/or government facilities (estimated 30% of time on travel)
  • Current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government; U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
