The Head of Group Captive Underwriting will report to the EVP, Sales, Advisory & Analytics with a primary objective to enhance production revenue while effectively managing the renewals of the existing portfolio. You will be responsible for shaping and driving the overall business strategy and appetite for Underwriting within our Group Captive portfolio. This role is fundamental to our ability to grow the business profitably and strategically. In this position, you will work with the Artex Head of Sales to implement production strategies and underwriting capabilities to increase sales within the overall Group Captive strategy. You will explore options within the Casualty space to enhance revenue along with creating opportunities for growth across other business lines. Leading and managing the new business underwriting team will be essential to achieving business unit goals. You will also design and present ongoing training seminars for the underwriting and sales/production teams, ensuring that the Underwriting Strategy aligns with Group policyholder risk appetite, including limits, pricing analysis, and policyholder selection. Your responsibilities will include overseeing group captive renewals, negotiating with insurance carriers on pricing, terms, and conditions, and ensuring appropriate pricing tools and systems are in place for monitoring product underwriting activities. You will be responsible for risk selection and setting terms & conditions to ensure price adequacy and compliance with underwriting guidelines. Additionally, you will manage relationships with insurance carriers and engage with stakeholders to influence underwriting strategy and identify new Group Captive opportunities. Your role will also involve conducting product business reviews and collaborating with the actuarial team to improve pricing and return on capital tools.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Artex Head of Sales to implement production strategies and underwriting capabilities to increase sales within the overall Group Captive strategy.

  • Oversee group captive renewals, negotiating with insurance carriers on pricing, terms, and conditions.
  • Ensure appropriate pricing tools, systems, and controls are in place for monitoring product underwriting activities.
  • Be responsible for risk selection and setting terms & conditions to ensure price adequacy and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage relationships with insurance carriers and articulate the underwriting strategy of each group captive.
  • Engage with stakeholders to influence underwriting strategy and identify new Group Captive opportunities.
  • Conduct product business reviews and monitor portfolio management tools to track Group Captive business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years related experience required.
  • Computer experience with applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • In-depth knowledge of the insurance brokerage business.
  • Ability to drive and travel as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive casualty related experience in a variety of markets (E&S, Admitted).
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance underwriting practices and procedures.
  • Skilled in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and decision-making capability.
  • Proven track record of directing and optimizing portfolios while improving underwriting results.
  • Proven track record in new product development and building a profitable book of business.
  • CPCU, ARe designations preferred.
