About the position

The Opportunity Investment Management (IM) is seeking an energetic and intellectually curious individual to lead the Investment Data Strategy team. This role is pivotal in defining, communicating, and advancing the data strategy for IM, collaborating with various teams across Investment Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Finance, Enterprise Technology, Corporate PMO, MassMutual affiliates, and external third parties. The Investment Data Strategy team is part of the Investment Management (IM) Strategy and Governance organization, which is responsible for driving IM's strategy forward, optimizing governance and decision-making processes, and establishing common metrics, processes, and tools. The team also supports key internal and external stakeholders in progressing the IM target operating model and coordinates strategic initiatives, Investment Compliance, and Investment Due-Diligence. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, a passion for learning, and resilience. They will need to adapt to changing priorities, manage time across multiple initiatives, and engage in discussions about investment topics with various teams within the organization. Responsibilities include leading a team to ensure that the strategy for sourcing, aggregating, distributing, and governing Investment data meets the comprehensive requirements of the end-to-end investment management process. The candidate will partner with project and development teams to ensure alignment with the investment data strategy and drive business value through the delivery and adoption of data governance practices, including accountability models, data quality measurement, data cataloging, and data consumer engagement. Additionally, the role involves applying investment knowledge and technical skills to address data issues and implement enhancements to the data ecosystem. The candidate will play a leading role in designing and implementing MassMutual's target operating model for Investment Operations, provide investment portfolio reporting and analysis for the Portfolio Management team, and oversee the Investment Management budget for market data and technology suppliers. This position is crucial for advancing the interests of the department by participating in working groups outside of Investment Management when appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Investment Data Strategy team to ensure effective sourcing, aggregating, distributing, and governing of Investment data.
  • Partner with project and development teams to ensure solutions align with the investment data strategy.
  • Drive business value through the delivery and adoption of data governance practices, including accountability models and data quality measurement.
  • Apply investment knowledge and technical skills to address data issues and implement enhancements to the data ecosystem.
  • Design and implement MassMutual's target operating model for Investment Operations.
  • Provide investment portfolio reporting and analysis for the Portfolio Management team and other corporate units.
  • Oversee the Investment Management budget for market data and technology suppliers.
  • Serve in working groups outside of Investment Management to advance departmental interests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of investment data experience.
  • Experience developing and leading high-performing, diverse teams.
  • Experience as a leader in an Investment Management function.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Experience in analyzing data using business intelligence software such as MicroStrategy, IBM Cognos, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong understanding of various types of investment instruments including fixed income, equity securities, alternatives, and derivatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to condense analyses into actionable recommendations.
