About the position

The Head of Investment Data Strategy and Governance at MassMutual is a pivotal role within the Investment Management (IM) division, responsible for leading the Investment Data Strategy team. This position requires an energetic and intellectually curious individual with strong analytical skills to define, communicate, and drive forward the data strategy for Investment Management. The successful candidate will partner with various teams across the organization, including Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Finance, and external third parties, to ensure that the data strategy aligns with the overall goals of the company. The Investment Data Strategy team is part of the IM Strategy and Governance organization, which focuses on optimizing governance and decision-making processes. This team analyzes and establishes common metrics, processes, and tools to support key stakeholders in progressing the IM target operating model. Additionally, the team coordinates strategic initiatives, Investment Compliance, and Investment Due-Diligence, making this role critical to the success of the department. In this role, the Head of Investment Data Strategy will lead a team responsible for ensuring that the strategy for sourcing, aggregating, distributing, and governing investment data meets the comprehensive requirements of the investment management process. The individual will also partner with project and development teams to ensure that solutions align with the investment data strategy, driving tangible business value through the delivery and adoption of data governance practices. This includes establishing an accountability model, measuring data quality, creating a data catalog, and engaging data consumers effectively. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, a passion for learning, and resilience. They will be adept at managing time across multiple initiatives and comfortable discussing investment topics with various teams within the organization. Responsibilities also include providing investment portfolio reporting and analysis for the Portfolio Management team and overseeing the budget for market data and technology suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Investment Data Strategy team to define and drive the data strategy for Investment Management.
  • Partner with project and development teams to ensure alignment with the investment data strategy.
  • Drive the delivery and adoption of data governance practices, including accountability models and data quality measurement.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to address data issues and implement enhancements to the data ecosystem.
  • Play a leading role in designing and implementing MassMutual's target operating model for Investment Operations.
  • Provide investment portfolio reporting and analysis for various stakeholders, including the Investment Committee and external rating agencies.
  • Oversee the budget for market data and technology suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of investment data experience.
  • Experience developing and leading high-performing, diverse teams.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Experience in analyzing data using business intelligence software such as MicroStrategy, IBM Cognos, or Tableau.
  • Strong understanding of various types of investment instruments including fixed income, equity securities, alternatives, and derivatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to condense analyses into actionable recommendations.
