About the position

The Investment Management (IM) division is seeking an energetic and intellectually curious individual to lead the Investment Data Strategy team. This role is pivotal in defining, communicating, and advancing the data strategy for IM, collaborating with various teams across Investment Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Finance, Enterprise Technology, Corporate PMO, MassMutual affiliates, and external third parties. The Investment Data Strategy team operates within the Strategy and Governance organization of IM, which is responsible for driving the overall strategy, optimizing governance and decision-making processes, and establishing common metrics, processes, and tools. This team also supports key internal and external stakeholders in progressing the IM target operating model, coordinates strategic initiatives, and oversees Investment Compliance and Investment Due-Diligence. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, a passion for learning, and resilience. The ideal individual will be adaptable to changing priorities, manage time effectively across multiple initiatives, and engage comfortably in discussions about investment topics with various teams throughout the organization. Responsibilities include ensuring that the strategy for sourcing, aggregating, distributing, and governing investment data meets the comprehensive requirements of the investment management process. The role also involves partnering with project and development teams to ensure alignment with the investment data strategy, driving business value through the implementation of data governance practices, and enhancing the data ecosystem by addressing data issues with investment knowledge and technical skills. Additionally, the candidate will play a significant role in designing and implementing MassMutual's target operating model for Investment Operations, providing investment portfolio reporting and analysis for the Portfolio Management team, and advancing departmental interests by participating in working groups outside of Investment Management. The position also includes overseeing the budget for market data and technology suppliers, ensuring effective management of resources and strategic alignment with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Investment Data Strategy team to define and drive the data strategy for Investment Management.
  • Ensure the strategy for sourcing, aggregating, distributing, and governing investment data meets the requirements of the investment management process.
  • Partner with project and development teams to align solutions with the investment data strategy.
  • Drive business value through the delivery and adoption of data governance practices, including accountability models and data quality measurement.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to address data issues and implement enhancements to the data ecosystem.
  • Design and implement MassMutual's target operating model for Investment Operations.
  • Provide investment portfolio reporting and analysis for the Portfolio Management team and other corporate units.
  • Serve in working groups outside of Investment Management to advance departmental interests.
  • Oversee the budget for market data and technology suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of investment data experience.
  • Experience developing and leading high-performing, diverse teams.
  • Proven leadership experience in an Investment Management function.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Experience in analyzing data using business intelligence software such as MicroStrategy, IBM Cognos, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong understanding of various types of investment instruments including fixed income, equity securities, alternatives, and derivatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to condense analyses into written and oral presentations.
