About the position

The Head Plumber is responsible for supervising and performing journeyman level installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in both domestic and commercial settings. This role involves analyzing plumbing issues, planning and executing plumbing projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. The Head Plumber will also train apprentices, maintain equipment manuals, and develop professional relationships with colleagues and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and perform installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
  • Analyze and repair plumbing problems at College facilities.
  • Plan and install in-house plumbing projects and irrigation systems.
  • Organize and prioritize assignments and projects, assigning daily work orders.
  • Set up and perform systematic preventative plumbing maintenance programs.
  • Install gas piping, HVAC pumps, and control valves.
  • Maintain a working stock of common plumbing repair items.
  • Recommend changes or improvements to plumbing systems.
  • Assist engineers, architects, and contractors with new equipment and system design.
  • Review bids and prices of jobs when requested.
  • Coordinate work with others and contractors as necessary.
  • Test all College backflow preventers.
  • Keep plumbing shop and truck clean and orderly.
  • Promote on-the-job safety procedures.
  • Model professional workplace behavior as a supervisor.
  • Train others as helpers or apprentices in compliance with codes.
  • Maintain level of training necessary to uphold licensing and plumbing code familiarity.
  • Maintain maintenance manuals for equipment under responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain courteous and professional working relationships with colleagues and staff.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing design, installation, and codes.
  • Possession of an Idaho Plumbing Journeyman license.
  • Ability to obtain backflow prevention certification within 1 year.
  • Mechanical and analytical abilities.
  • Working knowledge of blueprint reading and specification writing.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize tasks.

  • Experience in supervising plumbing helpers or apprentices.
