About the position

As a Health Actuary Consulting Manager at Deloitte, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic and technical consulting services to health plans, providers, and government entities. This position involves leading teams to develop innovative solutions that address complex healthcare challenges, focusing on the transformation of the healthcare sector through evidence-based practices and value-based payment models. You will be responsible for managing projects, communicating with senior clients, and contributing to the overall success of Deloitte's Human Capital practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team creating a model to value the impact of health care reform on a health plan client.
  • Review trend forecasting and predictive modeling tools.
  • Assist clients to define underwriting policies to reduce selection.
  • Price alternative plan designs and define product strategy.
  • Identify strategies to reduce enterprise costs.
  • Review reserves in support of Deloitte & Touche audits of health care liabilities.
  • Communicate ROI for medical management and other health plan initiatives to senior level clients and Deloitte leadership.
  • Prepare and present client presentations and reports.
  • Conduct other Manager level health actuarial consulting activities, as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 6+ years of Health Actuary experience
  • Successfully passed 5 actuarial exams
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ years of consulting and/or health plan/insurance company experience
  • Experience managing staff and leading medium to large sized teams
  • ASA with progression to FSA, FSA, or career ASA designation
  • Experience with product design and/or product strategy
  • Familiarity with reimbursement models including value-based care/ACO modeling
  • Experience with risk adjustment mechanisms
  • Familiarity with group insurance products including disability, long term care, etc.
  • Merger and Acquisition experience
  • Knowledge of health care reform and state Medicaid programs
  • Strong client presence with project management, presentation, and facilitation skills.
