About the position

The PACE Health Information Systems (HIS) Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity and consistency of health information records within the department. This role involves sorting, scanning, and filing patient health information, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing excellent customer service. The specialist will also assist in quality improvement measures and may require travel to various San Diego PACE facilities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, scan, and file patient health information records including lab reports, correspondence, and consultations into the EHR.
  • Examine medical records for completeness and compliance with JCAHO standards.
  • Prepare written notifications for corrective action concerning discrepancies in patient records.
  • Develop statistical reports to assist health service operations.
  • Process patient and personal legal representative informed consent forms.
  • Request completed consultation reports from Specialist Provider's offices.
  • Coordinate the preparation and processing of forms and consent authorizations in compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor and follow up with various stakeholders to obtain or release medical record information.
  • Maintain documentation for the Patient Health Information (PHI) Log as required by regulations.
  • Ensure timely sending of lab reports and correspondence to Satellite Clinics.
  • Collaborate with clinical care providers and HIS team for positive customer service experiences.
  • Maneuver through electronic applications used for job operations effectively.
  • Assist in organizing and directing the medical records department according to established policies.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in a medical records setting.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and acute care experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of an AA/BA Degree and/or certificate program.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate or RHIT/RHIA/HIM Certification.
