About The Position

The Health Technician (Audiology & Speech Language Pathology) position is located in the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Service at the VA Northern California Health Care System. This role primarily supports patient care in clinical settings, assisting with diagnostic and treatment procedures, patient education, and documentation. The technician works under the supervision of licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists, performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to ensure effective patient care and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Six months of experience comparable to the next lower level or two academic years above high school leading to an associate degree with relevant coursework.
  • Ability to assist with patient assessment and treatment under the direction of licensed professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of anatomy of the head and neck.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with basic hearing technologies and speech-language pathology needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support patient care diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Document patient care activities and complete patient education.
  • Manage clinical and office supplies, including hearing aids.
  • Assist Speech Pathologists during Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).
  • Maintain clean and disinfected instrumentation and equipment in compliance with infection control procedures.
  • Manage office supplies and maintain appropriate levels of clinical supplies in patient care rooms.
  • Track loaner stock and hearing aid inventory, and process ROES transactions.
