About the position

The Healthcare Data Scientist at McKesson is responsible for delivering quality outcomes research in various healthcare settings, primarily utilizing a records-based approach. This role involves data management, biostatistics, scientific writing, and collaboration with medical and research professionals to enhance patient care through data-driven insights.

Responsibilities

  • Query, process, clean, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Engineer features from raw clinical, demographic, and financial data and build research datasets and registries for biostatistical analysis and modeling.
  • Support concept development and analytic plan development for scientific research studies.
  • Lead the investigation and presentation of scientific results in peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
  • Collaborate in shared repositories using version control (git).
  • Work closely with medical researchers and their staff.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, tracking deliverables and adjusting to shifts in demand.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as data science, predictive analytics, statistics, physics, or mathematics, or a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of research experience and 1+ medical science journal publication(s).
  • Strong skills in a data science programming language, preferably R and/or Python.
  • Proficiency in SQL dialects and relational databases (MS SQL Server, Teradata, BigQuery).
  • Strong understanding of applied statistics, including distributions, statistical testing, regression, survival analysis, and dimension reduction.
  • Familiarity with supervised and unsupervised machine learning models.
  • Experience with data visualization libraries such as ggplot2 and/or matplotlib.
  • Understanding of natural language processing and regular expressions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with APIs (ODBC, FHIR, Google Cloud Platform, MS Azure).
  • Experience with version control software (git).
  • Experience with writing production-ready code.
  • Knowledge of therapeutics, molecular biology, oncology, clinical trials, electronic medical records, ICD10 codes, and HIPAA.
