Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment.
  • Maximize equipment availability with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Diagnose problems and perform mechanical repairs on machinery.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to determine required repairs.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance such as lubricating and oil changes.
  • Create work orders and input repair information in the maintenance database.
  • Maintain various types of equipment including conveyors and crushers.
  • Inspect equipment and complete inspection reports.
  • Test mechanical products after repair to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment as part of routine maintenance.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using gauges.
  • Schedule maintenance and keep service records for equipment.
  • Read and understand operating manuals and technical specifications.
  • Overhaul and test machines to ensure efficiency.
  • Weld or solder broken parts using appropriate tools.
  • Clean parts using grease solvent or immersion tanks.
  • Rebuild or fabricate parts as necessary.
  • Comply with environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Training from an accredited technical school preferred.
  • Apprentice level: less than 2 years of experience in maintenance and repairs.
  • Mechanic I: 2 years of experience with 1-3 relevant certifications.
  • Mechanic II: 2-5 years of experience with 4 or more relevant certifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computerized diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematic diagrams.
