About the position

The Helpdesk - IT Specialist is an entry-level position within the IT Team at Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) Southwest Division. This role is responsible for providing technical support and assistance with the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software, as well as supporting LAN-based networking and voice systems. The position reports directly to a Lead Helpdesk or IT Supervisor and requires availability for emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the installation and maintenance of all computer hardware and software
  • Assisting with the support of all aspects of LAN-based networking
  • Assisting with the installation and maintenance of voice systems, including cabling, phones, headsets, and software
  • Cabling new and existing locations for new network, computers, phones, or other equipment such as printers
  • Repairing or upgrading computer systems as needed
  • Providing Tier 1 level support on hardware and software technical issues
  • Creation of Active Directory Users, Groups, and modifying/changing permissions for users or groups
  • Assisting with the creation, updating, and management of computer images
  • Preparing documentation to assist end-user adoption of new and existing tools
  • Working in the ticketing tool to fulfill all end-user incidents and requests in compliance with agreed SLAs
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the lead or IT supervisor
  • Managing the computer equipment inventory
  • Availability 24/7 in case of emergency.

Requirements

  • Must be a computer course student, graduate, or have computer-related work experience
  • Knowledge of Windows 10, 11 required; Servers 2022 and above preferred
  • Computer certifications such as CompTia A+, CompTia Network+, CompTia Security +, or similar (Google)
