About the position

The High School Teacher at Polk County High School is responsible for providing high-quality, active learning experiences for all students in a safe, caring, and respectful environment. The teacher will implement essential functions that include planning developmentally appropriate lessons, delivering organized lessons, managing student behavior, analyzing test data, and using assessment as an integral part of instruction. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, making parent contacts, and participating in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan developmentally appropriate lessons and learning activities that address the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS).
  • Deliver well-organized, well-connected, smoothly flowing lessons that require active student participation.
  • Effectively manage student behavior and develop a classroom management plan.
  • Analyze test data and use it in planning.
  • Use assessment as an integral element in instruction and provide timely feedback.
  • Be knowledgeable of and use current technologies in planning and instruction.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff members and maintain a professional attitude.
  • Make parent contacts an important element in the overall learning experience.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform all assigned non-instructional duties.
  • Understand and comply with laws and policies.
  • Develop a plan for professional growth and participate in staff development activities.
  • Maintain high performance expectations for all students.
  • Regularly attend extracurricular activities.
  • Serve as an advocate to an assigned group of students.
  • Serve as a club sponsor.
  • Develop and implement PEP's for advocate students as needed.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the high school in the community.

Requirements

  • Have or be eligible for NC licensure in high school area of assignment.
  • Previous experience with high school students preferred.
