About the position

The Health Information Analyst at McKenzie County Healthcare Systems, Inc. is responsible for abstracting and analyzing patient encounters to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves working with electronic health records, ensuring documentation accuracy, and providing excellent customer service to patients and staff. The analyst will also collaborate with various departments to resolve incomplete information and maintain patient privacy according to HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete and accurate analyzing and abstracting of patient encounters to ensure documentation meets departmental, regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Maintains high attention to detail by reviewing all work for completeness and accuracy in compliance with system quality assurance policies.
  • Prepares weekly deficiency lists and disseminates them to department and/or administration.
  • Releases medical information upon request according to HIM Release of Information policies and HIPAA.
  • Monitors and manages all work queues as assigned daily.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls as needed.
  • Provides excellent customer service using the AIDET framework.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year's experience in healthcare, medical office setting, or health insurance setting preferred.
  • Previous experience in Health Information Management (HIM) preferred.
  • Experience with ICD-10 Coding preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to navigate electronic medical record systems.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the state.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
